Multiscale characterization of semicrystalline polymeric materials by synchrotron radiation X‐ray and neutron scattering

Abstract: Synchrotron radiation (SR) X‐ray and neutron scattering provide excellent probes for the investigation of polymeric material. Based on high brilliant beam with a tunable wavelength of SR, scattering techniques with high time and spatial resolutions have been developed for in situ X‐ray study on polymeric materials. With the isotopic sensitivity of neutron, the detailed single chain behavior can be isolated from the polymeric matrix under variant conditions with the help of deuterium labeling and contrast varia… Show more

“…In this study, a shielding material dispersion technology that maximizes the particle–radiation interaction was investigated. When the dispersed particles interacted with incident radiation or when the transmitted energy was attenuated because of the high density of the shield, the intensity of the incident energy was attenuated 35 . This study was inspired by the structure of morpho butterfly wings and was performed with the expectation that the shielding effect would be higher than that of the existing sheet-type shield if the tungsten particles were dispersed inside the structure.…”

“…WAXS measurements were performed by an in-house set up with the help of an image plate detector (Mar 345, 3072 × 3072 pixels with a pixel size of 150 × 150 μm 2 ) attached to a micro Cu Kα X-ray source (Incoatec, GmbH, λ = 1.54 Å). All SAXS and WAXS patterns were collected within 15 min with a sample-to-detector of 2250 mm and 352 mm, respectively [37,38].…”

“…Since the x-ray scattering can capture the long-range ordered structure and large-scale density fluctuation as mentioned above, the rheo x-ray scattering is crucial to obtain the structural feature of FIP. With the fast development of the synchrotron radiation facility, both high spatial and time-resolved x-ray scattering information can be obtained [129]. Su et al used micro-focus x-ray diffraction (μ-SRXD) with a spatial resolution of 4.9 × 5.3 μm 2 and time resolution of 5 s to investigate the precursor structure by fiber pulling [87,130].…”
