Multispectral autofluorescence imaging for detection of cervical lesions: A preclinical study

Abstract: PpIX autofluorescence clearly differentiated the tumor from adjacent normal tissues. The results of PpIX autofluorescence imaging and 5-ALA-induced fluorescence imaging were identical. PpIX autofluorescence imaging is a simple and cost-effective cervical cancer screening method that could be performed during or after PDT to ensure effective treatment or remission as a change in fluorescence intensity can be observed in real time without a blinding effect.

“…Fluorescence spectroscopy is particularly important for disease diagnosis [ [2] , [3] , [4] , [5] , [6] , [7] , [8] , [9] , [10] ]. The fluorescence emission from different natural fluorophores in biological tissues is obtained by exciting them with ultraviolet or visible light.…”

“…rough the multispectral image, not only the image data of the research target at a certain wavelength can be obtained, which is used to obtain the two-dimensional morphological data of the research object, but also the spectral data of a certain wavelength in the three-dimensional space can be used to obtain the research object information contained within the space. erefore, multispectral imaging technology has been applied to various aspects [17]. Image fusion is also an important point in multispectral imaging technology.…”

“…The growth of tumor in mice, inoculated with highly tumorigenic TC-1 cells immortalized using HPV type 16 proteins, was studied as a model of cervical cancer by Bae and co-workers [ 54 ]. Using an optical imaging system they detected the enhancement of protoporphyrin IX (PpIX) autofluorescence in tumor regions.…”
