Multitensor Tractography Enables Better Depiction of Motor Pathways: Initial Clinical Experience Using Diffusion-Weighted MR Imaging with Standard b-Value

Abstract: BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE:The purpose of this work was to test the feasibility of using high angular resolution diffusion imaging (HARDI)-based multitensor tractography to depict motor pathways in patients with brain tumors.

“…According to their study, the motor homunculus should have an anteroposterior alignment along the long axis of the PLIC. The results of our study are in a good agreement with the results of Yamada et al, 26 indicating that the hand pathways are located anterior to the foot pathways in the PLIC. Furthermore, our results demonstrate that the CBT (tongue and face fibers) is oriented anterior to the CST in the internal capsule.…”

“…5 Based on the method of Yamada and associates, 11 we performed tracking only when the following 3 criteria were met: the signal intensity on the b=0 image exceeded 200; the FA value exceeded 0.1 to 0.3; and the angle by which the tract changed from one voxel to the next did not exceed 279 .…”
