Multiwavelength erbium fiber ring laser using Sagnac loop and Fabry-Perot laser diode

Abstract: Abstract:We propose and demonstrate experimentally a simply multiple-wavelength erbium compound ring fiber laser employing a Sagnac interferometer with erbium-doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) and Fabry-Perot laser diode (FP-LD). The proposed laser has the advantage of simply structure and easy fabrication, lower insertion loss and cost-effective. Based on the Sagnac fiber laser scheme, the proposed laser can lase eight wavelengths simultaneously. Moreover, the optical output stability of the ring laser has been al… Show more

“…Filters are indispensable elements for a lot of optical systems, especially in fiber laser systems. All-fiber comb filters, such as Fabry-Perot interferometers [1,2], Mach-Zehnder interferometers [3][4][5], Sagnac interferometers (SIs) [6][7][8] and special fiber Bragg gratings [9,10], are generally used as wavelength selectors of lasers to provide a multi-wavelength operation. Recently, multi-wavelength erbium-doped fiber (EDF) lasers have attracted continuous attention because of their potential applications in microwave photonic generation, lidar-radar systems, optical sensing and optical communications [11][12][13][14].…”

“…Nowadays,multi-wavelength fiber-optic lasers are essential for many different applications of fiber communication systems: in optical testing, fiber sensors, radio-frequency photonics [1][2][3][4], etc. Moreover, several fiber laser resonators for multiwavelength lasing use have been proposed and studied: the Fox-Smith cavity, linear cavity, dual Sagnac loop, ring cavity, compound-ring cavity [5][6][7][8][9], etc. Furthermore, there have been studies of methods involving the use of several different gain media in fiber cavities, such as utilizing erbium doped fiber amplifiers (EDFA), semiconductor optical amplifiers (SOA), reflective semiconductor optical amplifiers (RSOA), stimulated Raman scattering, stimulated Brillouin scattering, and reflective semiconductor optical amplifiers (RSOA), and of combinations of these methods [10][11][12][13][14][15].…”

“…H. YeH et al ever reported a multiwavelength EDFL using a Sagnac loop and Fabry-Perot laser diode (FP-LD) [16]. They mainly use the polarization dependent characteristic of the Sagnac loop to obtain multiwavelength operation.…”
