Muscle Synergy Features in Behavior Adaptation and Recovery

Abstract: Abstract. Muscle synergy is the neuromuscular strategy that allows the central nervous system (CNS) to deal with muscle redundancy. In muscle synergy, muscles which are activated in asynchrony, when performing particular movement, are grouped and controlled by low-dimension motor signal. The relationship between the neuromuscular strategy for behavioral adaptation to unfamiliar task in healthy human and recovering motor function after stroke is still unclear. Here we investigated the behavioral adaptation of s… Show more

“…Muscle synergy has been described as a systematization method by which some muscles are activated in synchrony to complete a task [22, 37]. It defines how muscles are synchronized using the following fixed matrix: trueM=WC,MRm×t,WRm×n,CRn×t.…”

“…The experiment protocol is described in S1 File and showed in S1 Fig. The Variance Accounted For (VAF) criterion with a threshold level of 90% has been used to determine the number of MSs [37,[45][46][47][48][49][50][51][52]. Acording to the results of our experiments, the number of MS vectors to reconstruct the muscle activities with a VAF value of 90% for each subject is represented in Table 2.…”
