Music and Dopamine – Potential in Movement Disorders

Abstract: Most people have been deriving pleasure from music since long ago. Music is deeply associated with human communication and language. Music had also been popular as therapy in early history. How can we feel happiness or sadness when we listen to music? Scientifically, the dorsal and ventral striatum release dopamine when listening to pleasurable music. The activity in these structures is known to associate with the reward system of the human brain. Moreover, the nigrostriatal dopaminergic system regulates our m… Show more

“…While we used flat and simple works with a small number of folds, many threedimensional and complex origami works are created using a large number of folds. In creative origami, which is performed by junior high and high school students, extremely elaborate three-dimensional works are produced, with more than 100 folds on a large piece of paper (approximately 50 square centimeters) (e.g., Kamiya, 2019;Kawahata, 2018). Therefore, origami ranges widely in its difficulty, and the relationship between origami imagery, mental transformation, and visualization may change with these difficulty shifts.…”

“…The proposed connection between dorsal and ventral striatum dopamine release during music listening, which is associated with pleasurable experiences, is highly relevant to the current investigation [15]. Music-induced dopamine release in the brain's reward centres can produce feelings of pleasure and euphoria, much like the effects of other pleasurable activities such as eating and engaging in sexual activity.…”

“…Dopamine (DA) concentration degeneration in the substantia nigra (SN) is thought to be the predominant and origin reason for PD [ 17 ]. It plays an important role in movement regulation and high DA concentrations are found in the striatum [ 18 ]. DA is inherently electrochemically active and can be converted to a reporter molecule easily.…”
