Abstract: Schizophrenia and bipolar disorder are highly heritable mental illnesses with unclear pathophysiology. Heterozygous loss-of-function mutations of Sp4, a zinc-finger transcription factor, greatly increase risk of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.
