Myroides bacteremia : A case report and concise review

Abstract: Myroides species are bacteria found commonly in environmental sources, such as water and soil. Despite this, they are historically uncommon pathogens, tending to affect primarily immunocompromised hosts. Based on a review of the current cases listed in the U.S. National Institutes of Health's National Library of Medicine (Table 1), there have been 48 reported cases of infection to date, one third of which have been reported in only the last seven years. This report outlines a case of bacteremia caused by Myroi… Show more

“…These are widely distributed in the environment due to their ability to auto aggregate and co-aggregate to form biofilms (Elantamilan, Lyngdoh, Choudhury, Khyriem, & Rajbongshi, 2015). Some members of this genus have been reported as etiologic agents for invasive infection, especially in the immunocompromised (Beharrysingh, 2017).…”

“…These infections include skin and soft tissue infections, urinary tract infection, bacteraemia and sepsis (Benedetti et al, 2011, Beharrysingh 2017. They have now been increasingly reported as a cause of lifethreatening infections such as, sepsis, urinary tract infection, endocarditis and soft tissue infections primarily in immuno-compromised individuals (Prateek et al, 2015, Beharrysingh 2017. We reported a case of urosepsis due to M. odoratimimus in a 41 year old male.…”
