NADPH oxidase inhibitor development for diabetic nephropathy through water tank model

Abstract: Oxidative stress can cause generation of uncontrolled reactive oxygen species (ROS) and lead to cytotoxic damage to cells and tissues. Recently, it has been shown that transient ROS generation can serve as a secondary messenger in receptor-mediated cell signaling. Although excessive levels of ROS are harmful, moderated levels of ROS are essential for normal physiological function. Therefore, regulating cellular ROS levels should be an important concept for development of novel therapeutics for treating disease… Show more

“…ROS homeostasis is regulated from a balance between ROS generation and elimination in healthy condition. 52 , 53 The homeostasis in human body is similar with water balance in water tank. Just as a certain amount of water in tank remains when the inlet and outlet of water are maintained.…”

“…The water tank model (PD Tank) is also a conceptual runoff model, which uses various links of the hydrological process of watershed (flow generation, slope backflow, river confluence, etc.) to simulate several interconnected water tanks [27][28][29][30]. The SWAT model takes into account the complexity of the soil, land use, and management status in a watershed to conduct prediction and management analyses.…”

“…Tong and Adler [ 1 ] the comprehensive approach to the management of DKD to reduce the progression of renal disease and minimize the risk for cardiovascular events based on the latest published data. Lee et al [ 2 ] gives an overview of the role of NADPH oxidase in DKD, and offer a theoretical basis for the development of various Nox inhibitor as a regulator of reactive oxygen species homeostasis to provide an emerging new therapeutic approach for DKD. Pak et al [ 3 ] present the role of adenosine and adenosine receptor (AR) in the development and progression of DKD.…”
