Nanocomposite-Based Aminated Polyethersulfone and Carboxylate Activated Carbon for Environmental Application. A Real Sample Analysis

Abstract: Aminated polyethersulfone (PES-NH 2 ) has been synthesized and used with carboxylated activated carbon (AC-COOH) as an adsorbent using two different methods: in situ and ex situ techniques. The chemical modification of polyethersulfone (PES) to introduce -NH 2 functions was used to overcome the hydrophobicity of PES which maximizes its use in water treatment applications whereas applying AC-COOH to this polymer provides a promising effective method as an adsorbent-separation technique to remove dye pollutants … Show more

“…Only minor changes appear in the spectra of the Fe 3 O 4 @SiO 2 -NH 2 and Fe 3 O 4 @SiO 2 -NH 2 -EY samples. The appearance of a wide band near 3430 cm −1 is a more noticeable feature characteristic of the NH 2 amino group [ 14 ]. A small amount of covalently attached eosin Y in comparison with Fe 3 O 4 @SiO 2 -NH 2 NPs does not allow one to clearly see changes in the bending and stretching vibrations of the amino groups.…”

“…FTIR spectra confirmed the DOX loading into the nanocarriers via the clear appearance of two peaks at 1405 and 1576 cm −1 which were assigned to C–C stretches in the aromatic ring of the DOX molecule ( Figure S1 ). Furthermore, a significant increase in the peak at 1620 cm −1 was observed, which is assigned to N –H stretching mode [ 48 , 49 ]. The average particle size and zeta potential of DOX-loaded MSN-PDEAEMA were found to be similar to unloaded DOX ( Figure S2 ).…”

“…The curves moved to slightly higher temperature upon increasing the CNTs loading. From the TGA curves the temperatures of 10, 25, and 50% weight loss, T 10 , T 25 , and T 50 , were obtained . In addition, from the DTG curves the maximum polymer degradation temperature PDT max were determined .…”
