Nanomaterials’ Influence on the Performance of Thermal Insulating Mortars—A Statistical Analysis

Abstract: This research provides a statistical analysis of the mechanical and physical properties of thermal insulating mortars developed in the laboratory and by the industry with and without the incorporation of nanomaterials. This was evaluated by carrying out a uni and bivariate analysis, principal components and factor analysis, cluster analysis, and the application of regression models. The results show that it is possible to find associations between these mortars’ properties, but also how these formulations’ dev… Show more

“…Moisture and heat affect the properties of the material, in particular its thermal conductivity. Laboratory testing of the above-mentioned parameters is widely discussed by both domestic and foreign research groups [5][6][7]12,14,16,18,19]. This paper complements previous research studies executed on the fiber-reinforced aerogel insulation [10,11].…”

“…Regarding insulating materials, we often do not have complete information on how they behave under external influences, such as humidity, temperature or time. These might change their properties and possibly their structures, and they may lose their good thermal insulation properties that are already present during production [3,11,12,[14][15][16][17][18].…”

“…Nanotechnology is a field dealing with the synthesis of various structures having at least a size within the range 1–100 nm and is one of the most rapidly developing sciences [ 1 ]. Nanomaterials find applications in such areas as food packaging [ 2 ], the electric industry [ 3 , 4 ], or catalysts [ 5 , 6 ]. Nonetheless, particular interest in nano-sized materials is currently observed in medicine and the related areas, i.e., in orthopedy [ 7 ], dentistry [ 8 , 9 ], or in drug delivery [ 10 , 11 , 12 ].…”

“…The aerogel-based thermal renders studied by Pedroso et al [21,32] with aramid (TR aramid) and sisal fibres (TR sisal) with, respectively, 0.50% and 0.10% substitution quantities concerning the reference render powder (in total volume) were used in the numerical simulations [33]. Furthermore, thermal renders without fibres were considered the reference (TR reference).…”
