Abstract:Nanoparticles of three different categories of condensed matter, namely, metal, semiconductor, and insulator, exhibit fluorescence through radiative recombination of charge carriers though the origin and mechanism of light emission is vastly different. Whereas fluorescence from metal nanoparticles, e.g., Au and Ag, falls in the visible region due to sp-d band transition of electrons, the fluorescence gets enhanced due to interaction with localized surface plasmon. Semiconductor quantum dots form a special clas… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
