Nanoparticles for hematologic diseases detection and treatment

Abstract: Nanotechnology, as an interdisciplinary science, combines engineering, physics, material sciences, and chemistry with the biomedicine knowhow, trying the management of a wide range of diseases. Nanoparticle-based devices holding tumor imaging, targeting and therapy capabilities are formerly under study. Since conventional hematological therapies are sometimes defined by reduced selectivity, low therapeutic efficacy and many side effects, in this review we discuss the potential advantages of the NPs’ use in alt… Show more

“…6 As a result, nding and developing smart delivery methods that efficiently preserve and distribute therapeutic medications, improve targeting capabilities, and accomplish controlled release are critical to healing leukemia. [2][3][4][17][18][19] Conventional detection methods show some restrictions, such as being costly, laborious, and time-consuming. 20 They require a set of elaborated devices while suffering from low sensitivity and need several processing phases, which makes them unfavourable for easy and fast medical monitoring or analysis.…”

“…In more detail, when referring to nanomaterials, an increasingly successfully tool of nanotechnologies, nanoparticles are categorized as materials in which at least one dimension is less than 100 nm in diameter. Among the various nanoparticle categories, metal and metal oxide nanoparticles stand out as emerging nanotechnological solutions for a wide range of biological and medical physio/pathological open questions [ 1 , 2 , 3 ]. This Special Issue covers the fundamental science, design, characterization, and biomedical applications of metal and metal oxide nanomaterials and the five papers here presented embrace all the aspects determining the performance of these systems, ranging from their synthesis, design, chemical, physical, and biological functionalization, to their characterization and successful applications.…”
