Naringenin Protects against Acute Pancreatitis in Two Experimental Models in Mice by NLRP3 and Nrf2/HO-1 Pathways

Abstract: Background Naringenin (Nar) is a type of flavonoid and has been shown to have anti-inflammatory and antioxidative properties. However, the effects of Nar on acute pancreatitis (AP) have not been well studied. In this study, we aimed to investigate the function of Nar in a mouse model of AP. Methods Mild acute pancreatitis (MAP) was induced by caerulein (Cae), and severe acute pancreatitis (SAP) was induced by L-arginine in mice. Nar was administered intraperitoneally at doses of 25, 50, or 100 mg/kg following … Show more

“…Kaempferol was also able to inhibit lipase [ 47 ]. Luteolin and naringenin have been demonstrated to protect against severe acute pancreatitis in mice by exerting anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects and decreasing lipase activity [ 48 , 49 ]. The ability of the isolated flavonoids presented in the extract could explain the activity of the extract in these enzymes.…”

“…The superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GPx), glutathione reductase (GR) and glutathione S-transferase (GST) activity was evaluated as already described previously [ 47 , 48 ]. SOD activity was evaluated by quantitative sandwich enzyme immunoassay technique using a commercial kit (Cusabio, Houston, Texas).…”

“…The lipid peroxidation was evaluated by reaction between malondialdehyde (MDA), thiobarbituric acid and lipid peroxides and measured spectrophometrically at 532 nm. Results were expressed as nanomol TBA (thiobarbituric acid) reactants formed/g wet tissue [ 47 ].…”

“…[14][15][16] In addition, NGN mitigated acute pancreatitis induced by caerulein and L-arginine in mice. 17 The current work was done to investigate the possible protective effects of NGN, VLN and NGN + VLN in a rat model of cadmium-induced pancreatic injury and to elucidate the feasible mechanisms mediating these protective effects.…”
