Nasal Columnar Cell Exfoliation in the Asthmatic; The Effects of Infection and Allergy*

Abstract: A pilot study was undertaken to determine whether degenerative changes in exfoliated nasal columnar epithelium would provide a useful marker of respiratory infection. The method was considered to be of no value. An incidental finding was that columnar cell exfoliation occurred more frequently in certain allergic subjects.
