NEMA NU 2-2007 performance measurements of the Siemens Inveon™ preclinical small animal PET system

Abstract: National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) NU 2-2007 performance measurements were conducted on the Inveon ™ preclinical small animal PET system developed by Siemens Medical Solutions. The scanner uses 1.51 × 1.51 × 10 mm LSO crystals grouped in 20 × 20 blocks; a tapered light guide couples the LSO crystals of a block to a position-sensitive photomultiplier tube. There are 80 rings with 320 crystals per ring and the ring diameter is 161 mm. The transaxial and axial fields of view (FOVs) are 100 and 1… Show more

“…The core body temperature was maintained by flowing heated air through the imaging cell. PET imaging was performed using an Inveon PET/CT scanner (Siemens Preclinical Solutions) (23). The scanner uses 1.59 · 1.59 · 10 mm lutetium oxyorthosilicate crystals grouped into blocks of 20 · 20 crystals.…”

“…The PET component consists of 1.5 · 1.5 · 10 mm lutetium oxyorthosilicate crystal elements with a ring diameter of 16.1 cm, providing a 10-cm transaxial and a 12.7-cm axial field of view (27)(28)(29).…”

“…The simulation included all the materials in the line source in order to take into account attenuation effects at the source. The sensitivity obtained for the line source activity was converted to equivalent sensitivity for a centered point source, as explained in Kemp et al (2006). The sensitivity estimated from real measurements by Kemp et al (2006) was 52.0 cps kBq −1 .…”

“…The sensitivity estimated from the simulations was 52.7 cps kBq −1 , in good agreement with the real measurements. Kemp et al (2006). Total coincidence rates and true, scatter and random counts contribution are also shown for the simulation.…”
