Abstract:Histone variants replace canonical histones in nucleosomes, sometimes changing nucleosome function. Histone variant evolution is poorly characterized, and, as we show here, reconstruction of histone protein evolution can be challenging given large differences in rates across gene lineages and across sites. The positions of introns that interrupt genes can provide complementary phylogenetic information. We combined sequence and intron data to reconstruct the evolution of three histone H2A variants in Caenorhab… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
