examined. Loss to follow-up rates were assessed, and characteristics associated with loss to follow-up were identified using Cox regression. The follow-up time per patient was obtained via a survey of tumor registrars (n ¼ 434; response rate ¼ 28.9%). The time expended to collect cumulative follow-up data in 2014 was calculated. RESULTS:In total, 484,201 patients from 958 hospitals were identified. After 10 years, 14.6% of patients were lost to followup, 61.1% were deceased, and 24.4% had ongoing follow-up. By 25 years, loss to follow-up increased to 28.6% (69.5% deceased, 1.9% ongoing follow-up; Fig. ). Loss to follow-up was increased among Hispanic (hazard ratio 1.24; 95% CI, 1.19 to 1.28) and Asian (hazard ratio 1.18; 95% CI, 1.12 to 1.24) patients and varied by region and hospital type. Across 1,456 hospitals, 985,190 hours were spent in 2014 following patients more than 10 years, 522,838 hours for patients more than 15 years, and 197,944 hours for patients more than 20 years from diagnosis.
