Neonatal Hemostatic Disorders: Issues and Challenges

Abstract: Neonates form a unique cohort with distinct features associated with the hemostatic system compared with older children and adults. The development of the human hemostatic system begins around 10 weeks in utero and continues to evolve during childhood. This dynamic period termed developmental hemostasis should be taken into consideration when diagnosing a neonate with disorders of bleeding or thrombosis.

“…Usually, acquired factors including use of a CVC, malignant diseases, obesity, infections, cardiopathy, and nephrotic syndrome can be found in the majority of cases of paediatric thrombosis [ 19 , 20 , 21 ]. Use of a CVC is the most common cause in newborns [ 22 , 23 , 24 , 25 ]. The occurrence of catheter-related thrombosis in newborns does not require the testing of hereditary thrombophilia [ 12 ].…”

“…[37], обнаружен риск возникновения тромбоза в неонатальный период в 9,2% случаев. При неонатальном тромбозе приобретенные факторы встречаются значительно чаще по сравнению с наслед ственными факторами [26,44]. У новорожден ных тромбоз, связанный с катетером, является редким, но представляет собой серьезную про блему.…”

“…Monitoring of the coagulation system is essential for certain adult and pediatric patients who are at high risk for bleeding and thrombosis. 1,2 There are also specific populations of adult and pediatric patients in whom coagulation diagnostic testing is routinely performed. 3,4 Patients presenting with symptoms of thrombosis or bleeding respectively undergo screening with hypercoagulability or bleeding panel testing to identify specific coagulation defects that may predispose a patient to hemostatic disorders.…”
