Network analysis of RE-AIM framework: chronology of the field and the connectivity of its contributors

Abstract: The reach, effectiveness, adoption, implementation, and maintenance (RE-AIM) framework has been widely used for translational research. We used social network analysis (SNA) to explore how innovative research frameworks, such as RE-AIM, have diffused over time in academic literature. A structured literature review was conducted on RE-AIM between 1999 and 2012. SNA indices of degree score, betweenness, centrality, and authorship ties were used to examine use of RE-AIM. Use of RE-AIM has grown since its inceptio… Show more

“…The EPIS framework is a relatively young model compared to some other implementation models and frameworks in the field. It is natural that after initial introduction and application, the network of users will broaden [26]. This has already been observed with EPIS, as more than 50% of research projects included in this review had no direct affiliation with the first author of the EPIS framework (Aarons).…”

“…Key considerations to begin implementing mHealth for hydroxyurea utilization include recruitment in diverse care settings and estimating the reach, effectiveness, adoption, implementation, and maintenance of the apps, which are the 5 components of the RE-AIM framework [ 61 ]. RE-AIM is a useful framework to evaluate the utility of mHealth to foster hydroxyurea utilization and to broaden the future applicability and dissemination of the apps [ 62 , 63 ].…”

“…The seminal RE-AIM paper (1) has been cited over 2,800 times, and the RE-AIM framework has been applied to study planning or evaluation in over 450 publications (7). RE-AIM is one of the most frequently used frameworks for planning and evaluation of grant applications at most of the leading U.S. health and medical research agencies (8) and has been used widely (nationally and internationally) (9, 10) and across populations, settings, and health conditions (1124). Generally, RE-AIM does seem to translate and be useful in the different countries and cultures in which use has been reported.…”
