Network Intrusion Detection System Embedded on a Smart Sensor

Abstract: Abstract-This paper proposes a Network Intrusion Detection System (NIDS) embedded in an Smart Sensor inspired device, under a Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) approach, able to operate independently as an anomaly-based NIDS or integrated, transparently, in a Distributed Intrusion Detection System (DIDS). The proposal is innovative, because it combines the advantages of Smart Sensor approach and the subsequent offering of the NIDS functionality as a service with the SOA use in order to achieve their integrat… Show more

“…To provide security of the physical network, ZigBee and HomePlug technologies use 128-bit advanced encryption standard (AES) that is a 128-bit fixed-length block cipher, standardized in 2002 by the National Institute of Standards and Technology [130]. In order to improve communication security for these devices, there are many studies has been proposed [131][132][133][134][135].…”

“…Otherwise, unauthorized access cannot be detected, and this issue leads to unforeseen results. The unauthorized access detection for smart grid communication is the subject of the cyber security of power systems and further information about this topic has been studied in [133,134].…”

“…IDS based architectures are used to improve inherent security in the cloud such as NICE [8] has introduced its sub-models to detect & mitigate attack consequences. While on a network sensor embedded NIDS [22] provides load balancing of network traffic by carry-over it to DIDS & provide on demand service but only limited in basic web service specifications. A framework which is most noticeable and typically IDS based is Random forests network.…”

“…A novel NIDS embedded on a smart sensor has been introduced by Maciá-Pérez, Mora-Gimeno, Marcos-Jorquera, Gil-Martínez-Abarca, Ramos-Morillo and Lorenzo-Fonseca [23]. The main advantage of this self-managed smart sensor is that, it can be incorporated with the IDS without noticeably increasing the global complexity of the system.…”
