“…Indeed, Morris and colleagues demonstrated in their recent work up to 300% improvement in temporal SNR and rsFC coefficients provided by UHF 7T fMRI when compared to 3T, indicating enhanced power for detection of functional neural architecture 56 . The UHF technology improves the confound introduced by partial volume effects 57 with and supralinear gains in the functional contrast-to-noise ratio (fCNR) 54 resulting in increased sensitivity to susceptibility changes 6 . Altogether, 7T can increase the conspicuity between different brain regions 6 .These effects improve the segregation of signals originating from different anatomical substrates (e.g.…”

“…Regarding the reproducibility and potential implications of our findings, neuroimaging at 7T would provide greater signal-to-noise ratio at similar faster scan times compared with 1.5T and 3T scans, thus allowing for a more fine-grained investigation with VDM ( Jones, 2021 ). It is also worth noting the clinical utility of using 3T scanners as field strengths range from 1.5. to 3 T in clinical settings ( Wardlaw et al, 2012 ).…”

“…Currently, there are over seventy 7 T scanners in the world (Clarke et al, 2020). Despite the rising popularity of 7 T scanners, installation costs present a significant burden that can delay important basic and clinical research (Jones et al, 2021). In light of the challenges associated with UHF 7 T data collection, we aimed to delineate the CeA-5M circuit at 3 T. Indeed, we were able to successfully resolve the circuit again, effectively proving the feasibility of studying the CeA-5M pathway using readily available 3 T scanners, without additional costs associated with the installation and operationalization of 7 T scanners.…”
