Neutralizing antibodies levels are increased in individuals with heterologous vaccination and hybrid immunity with Ad5-nCoV in the north of Mexico

Abstract: The coordinated efforts to stop the spread of the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV2) include massive immunization of the population at a global scale. The humoral immunity against COVID-19 is conferred by neutralizing antibodies (NAbs) that occur during the post-infection period and upon vaccination. Here, we provide robust data showing that potent neutralizing antibodies are induced in convalescent patients of SARS-CoV-2 infection who have been immunized with different types of vaccin… Show more

“…A mild decrease in antibody level was observed from first to seventh month in the Bologna cohort, with an overall persistence of vaccine-induced immunization. These results are consistent with previous findings from the ORCHESTRA study, including a partially overlapping set of cohorts [15,16], and corroborate previous literature on the topic [17][18][19][20].…”

“…No clear consistent effect of pre-existing immunity was observed, aligning with the clinical data from homologous Ad26 or ChAdOx1 regimens showing consistent boosting after the second dose [ 16 , 17 , 53 58 ]. In addition, spike-expressing adenovirus-based vector vaccines Ad26.COV2.S and Ad5-nCoV have shown to elicit similar levels of neutralizing antibodies in humans [ 59 ].…”

“…The data obtained for immune escape across the variants in our study also correlated with another study on neutralization assay on individuals having first and second-dose COVID-19 vaccines ( 33 ). Besides, the heterologous vaccination (mixing) strategy is shown to increase neutralization levels with in vitro assays ( 30 , 34 ). These results show that our assay had the advantage of a high-throughput approach to obtain comprehensive data including both aspects.…”
