Neutron-skin thickness of 208Pb from the energy of the anti-analogue giant dipole resonance

Abstract: The energy of the charge-exchange Anti-analog Giant Dipole Resonance (AGDR) has been calculated for the 208 Pb isotope using the state-of-the-art fully self-consistent relativistic proton-neutron quasiparticle random-phase approximation based on the Relativistic HartreeBogoliubov model. It is shown that the AGDR centroid energy is very sensitively related to the corresponding neutron-skin thickness. The neutron-skin thickness of 208 Pb has been determined very precisely by comparing the theoretical results wit… Show more

“…Recently, in a measurement of the coherent π 0 photoproduction from 208 Pb at Mainz [11], the shape of the neutron distribution has been found to be 20% more diffuse than the charge distribution and the neutron skin thickness is R skin = 0.15 ± 0.03 (stat) +0.01 −0.03 (syst) fm. This value is compatible with previous independent measurements, i.e., proton elastic scattering [5,12], x-ray cascade of antiprotonic atoms [3,4], anti-analog giant dipole resonances [13][14][15], giant quadrupole resonances [16], pigmy dipole resonance [17][18][19][20], electric dipole polarizability [21] or pionic probes [22].…”

“…The present calculation employing the SkM* functional reproduces well these experimental data. The ( 13 C, 13 N) reaction has been employed to locate the IVGQR in 60 Co, and it is found at E x = 20 ± 2 MeV [67]. The calculation is in remarkable agreement with the experiment, as shown in Fig.…”

“…Since the IS component is absent in the T z = ±1 channels, a detailed investigation of the charge-exchange GRs would give an additional constraint on the symmetry energy. The anti-analog GDR is an example [11][12][13][14][15][16]. Furthermore, to investigate the isospin structure of the excitation modes, such as the pygmy dipole resonance, a comparative study in the T z = 0 and −1 channels has been carried out in Refs.…”
