New approaches in sensitive chiral CE

Abstract: CE has shown to have a big potential for chiral separations, with advantages such as high efficiency, high resolution, and low sample and reagents consumption. Nevertheless, when UV detection is employed, CE has some drawbacks, especially the low sensitivity obtained due to the short optical path length. Notwithstanding, sensitivity improvements can be achieved when different approaches are employed, such as sample treatment strategies (off-line or on-line), in-capillary sample preconcentration techniques, and… Show more

“…In order to extract or isolate a compound from the matrix components, the use of an extraction technique is necessary. Liquid–liquid extraction (LLE) and SPE are the most known extraction techniques; however, as anticipated in the previous review article regarding this topic , SPE is less used every time and as a consequence, regarding off‐line sample treatments, only LLE has been used to enhance the sensitivity in chiral CE methodologies in the period of time covered by this review.…”

“…It is important in various chemical fields, especially in the pharmaceutical industry, food production, clinical toxicology, and forensic toxicology [1][2][3][4][5][6]. As a consequence, the development of effective methods for chiral separation is a significant discipline in the analytical sciences [7]. Direct chiral separations are often achieved in the presence of a chiral selector that is, in most cases, bound to a solid support in high-performance liquid chromatography, whereas it is added to the background electrolyte (BGE) in capillary electrophoresis (CE).…”

“…For example, high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), [15][16][17][18][19][20][21] gas chromatography (GC), 22 capillary electrophoresis (CE), 23 or nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) 24 can be employed.
