“…Oral administration of pumpkin extract significantly decreases blood glucose levels in STZ-induced rats and diabetic patients via the increase of insulin secretion, the increase of β-cell mass, or the inhibition of α-amylase and α-glucosidase [28, 29]. In addition, extracts of Momordica charantia reduce blood glucose levels in diabetic rats and patients via the stimulation of translocation of glucose transporter 4, the promotion of β-cell recovery, and the inhibition of protein-tyrosine phosphatase 1B [30–32]. In this study, we found that TK was the most frequently used Chinese medicinal herb in diabetic patients in Taiwan.…”

“…Further in a 2014 study, Zeng et al [44] reported the isolation of four new cucurbitane-type sapogenins together with eight known compounds from the acid-hydrolyzed fruit extracts of M.charantia . On screening for their biological activity, these compounds showed significant inhibition of a tyrosine phosphatase, protein tyrosinephosphatase 1B (PTP1B), which is implicated in type II diabetes.…”

“…Dentre as espécies vegetais utilizadas, o melão-de-São-Caetano (Momordica charantia L.) é classificado como uma planta daninha com incidência Research, Society and Development, v. 9, n. 7, e15973769, 2020 (CC BY 4.0) | ISSN 2525-3409 | DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.33448/rsd-v9i7.3769 frequente em pomares, cercas, hortas, cafezais, alambrados e terrenos baldios (Lorenzi, 2000). É usado na alimentação e em atividades farmacológicas como anti-hiperglicêmico (Rao, et al, 2001), antidiabético (Zhang, et al, 2014), antifúngico (Alam, et al, 2009), efeitos antioxidantes (Shan, et al, 2012;Panda, et al, 2015), atividades citotóxicas (Zhang, et al, 2014) e inibidoras da proteína tirosina fosfatas 1 B (Zeng, et al, 2014).…”
