Abstract: New faunistic data are provided on the ground spiders (Araneae: Gnaphosidae) of Iraq. Three genera (Haplodrassus Chamberlin, 1922; Minosiella Dalmas, 1921; Odontodrassus Jézéquel, 1965) and six species (Haplodrassus dalmatensis (L. Koch, 1866); Minosiella intermedia Denis, 1958; Odontodrassus aravaensis Levy, 1999; Odontodrassus mundulus (O. An updated and annotated checklist of the spiders of Iraq, currently comprising 104 species in 75 genera and 29 families is presented, including six endemic and four subendemic species. Twenty-three records are considered misidentifications and therefore omitted from the checklist. Where possible, the misidentified records are attributed to other species based on their distribution and morphology; as a result of this, three species are recorded in Iraq for the first time: Dictis striatipes L. Koch, 1872 (Scytodidae), Hippasa deserticola Simon, 1889 (Lycosidae) and Latrodectus cinctus Blackwall, 1865 (Theridiidae). The history of studies and the geographical distribution of records are reviewed and discussed. The list is dominated by members of the families Gnaphosidae, Lycosidae, and Salticidae, comprising 15.4%, 13.5% and 10.6% of the total number of species, respectively.

The results of an investigation on a small collection of spiders from Najaf Province in southern Iraq are reported. Four species are described: Hersiliola babylonica sp. n. (♂♀; Hersiliidae), Liocranoeca deserticola sp. n. (♂; Liocranidae), Talanites sumericus sp. n. (♀; Gnaphosidae) and Zelotes jakesi sp. n. (♀; Gnaphosidae). Two families (Liocranidae; Miturgidae), five genera (Evippa Simon, 1882; Heriaeus Simon, 1875; Liocranoeca Wunderlich, 1999; Prochora Simon, 1886; Talanites Simon, 1893) and five species (Enoplognatha gershomi Bosmans & Van Keer, 1999; Evippa amitaii Armiach Steinpress et al., 2021; Heriaeus buffoni (Audouin, 1826); Prochora lycosiformis (O. Pickard-Cambridge, 1872); Thanatus vulgaris Simon, 1870) are recorded in Iraq for the first time; for E. gershomi, the epigyne is described for the first time, the male is redescribed and the species is newly reported also from Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.

Newly taxonomic and faunistic data on five ground spiders (Gnaphosidae) in Iraq are provided. Talanites gilgamesh sp. nov. is described as a new species, according to two females collected from Thi Qar Province. Minosia simeonica Levy, 1995 and Synaphosus shirin Ovtsharenko, Levy & Platnick, 1994 are reported from Iraq for the first time, representing two new generic records for the fauna of this country. Additionally, new localities are reported for T. sumericus Zamani & Marusik, 2022 and Minosiella intermedia Denis, 1958. Photographic documentation of specimens, including their copulatory organs and habitats, is provided alongside mapped records detailing the known distribution of the species.
