New Kohn-Sham density functional based on microscopic nuclear and neutron matter equations of state

Abstract: A new version of the Barcelona-Catania-Paris energy functional is applied to a study of nuclear masses and other properties. The functional is largely based on calculated ab initio nuclear and neutron matter equations of state. Compared to typical Skyrme functionals having 10-12 parameters apart from spin-orbit and pairing terms, the new functional has only 2 or 3 adjusted parameters, fine tuning the nuclear matter binding energy and fixing the surface energy of finite nuclei. An energy rms value of 1.58 MeV i… Show more

“…However, in order to exhibit the isovector character of nuclear forces, we have to focus mainly on heavy and additional neutron rich nuclei. Furthermore it is well known that the energy density formalism is able to reproduce properties of finite nuclei including mainly the bulk properties, namely the binding energy as well as the size and shape of the mass and charge distributions [50,74,75,76,77,78]. The Thomas-Fermi model, which has been applied previously with success for the study of main properties of heavy nuclei, is the main framework of the present study.…”

“…In this paper, we adopt the Barcelona-Catania-Paris-Madrid (BCPM) density functional [12] which consists of E Vol (volume term) and E Suf (surface term). The volume term is given in a form of the local density approximation, while the surface term is given by a form of the Gaussian folding.…”

“…It is also worth to mention a relatively newly developed approach, known originally as a BCP (Barcelona-CataniaParis) [12] method, and later as a BCPM (BarcelonaCatania-Paris-Madrid) method [13]. The main bulk term of the BCPM functional was found by starting from the equation of the state of nuclear and neutron matter, oba e-mail: tolkn@mail.ru b e-mail: saper43_7@mail.ru tained within the Brueckner-Hartree-Fock method by using a realistic NN + NNN potential.…”
