New materials from telechelic polyacetals

Abstract: : Telechelic polyacetals, obtained by cationic ring-opening polymerization of 1,3-dioxolane (DXL) and 1,3-dioxepane (DXP), have been used as building blocks for polymer materials. In the first part of this paper, the synthesis and the properties of networks based on polyDXL a,w-bis(methacry1ates)ai-e discussed. The second part deals with the synthesis and the properties of polyacetal polyurethanes. A thermoplastic polyurethane was prepared with poly(DXL-co-DXP) a,o-diol as soft segment and the combination buta… Show more

“…PDO exhibits good hydrophilicity since ethylene glycol and methyl aldehyde units alternatingly distribute on the back‐bone providing hydrophilic domains. [ 43‐44 ] Copolymers with designable compositions are synthesized at various feed ratios. By increasing the feed ratios of DO/CL from 1.0 (Sample 5 in Table 1) to 2.6 (Sample 4 in Table 1), the weight fractions of DO repeating units in the MBCPs range from 4 to 41 wt% (Sample 4—7 in Table 1).…”

“…3,4 Since the polymeric backbone of PDXL does not possess reactive groups, only the end-groups of PDXL could be used for functionalization. 5 Therefore, it is important to be able to make telechelic PDXL, such as a,u-dihydroxide PDXL.…”

“…In addition, star and hyper-branched or dendric polymers are obtained by coupling reactions of telechelics with appropriate reagents. [1] Telechelic polymers, having variety of functional groups, are prepared by a wide range of polymerization methods namely, anionic, [2] cationic, [3] ring opening, [4] group transfer, [5] free radical, [6] metathesis [7] and step-growth polymerization, and chain scission processes. [1a] In the last decades, there have been rapid developments in controlled/living radical polymerization techniques, [8] which provide to synthesize well-defined telechelic polymers also with radical routes.…”
