“…Matteri (2003) reported 146 species, two subspecies and eight varieties from this archipelago, but no fewer than three species and two varieties from her list are identical to other species and should be excluded from the flora. However, these losses are compensated for by several additional moss species (Allen & Magill, 2003;Blockeel et al, 2003;Ochyra & Broughton, 2004;Ireland et al, 2005;Ellis et al, 2010Ellis et al, , 2011b. 9.…”

“…Grimmia genuflexa must be excluded from the selection because it was earlier synonymized with Racomitrium orthotrichaceum (Deguchi, 1984). Because the epithet orthotrichacea is firmly rooted in the bryological literature (Hébrard, 1970a,b;Deguchi, 1984;Ochyra et al, 2002;Ochyra & Broughton, 2004;Bednarek-Ochyra & Ochyra, 2012a;Ellis et al, 2013a), it is chosen as the accepted name for this species, no matter with which generic name it is combined. This choice of epithet also reflects the characteristic feature of the peristome teeth in this species which are reflexed and appressed to the urn on drying as observed in many species of the genus Orthotrichum Hedw.…”

“…Although it is recognised that some taxonomic interpretations may change, the 1980 field identifications have been retained with names updated to accord with Flora of Australia (1993) for vascular plants, Seppelt (2004) and Ochyra & Broughton (2004) for mosses, McCarthy (2003) for liverworts, and Kantvilas & Seppelt (1992) for lichens.…”

“…The species of Azorella on Macquarie Island is now recognised as the endemic A. macquariensis (Orchard 1989); Dicranoweisia antarctica is now Hymenoloma antarcticum (Ochyra & Broughton 2004); Rhacomitrium has become Racomitrium. Taylor's references to Dicranoweisia antarctica in fact referred to Ditrichum strictum (Ashton & Gill 1965).…”
