Promoting longer lifetimes and efficient re-use of products has a significant potential to save resources and reduce adverse environmental impacts, especially for products that have large resource footprints related to extraction and production processes, as for instance automobiles. Remanufacturing is a product life extension strategy promoting the effective and efficient re-use of products by replacing worn-out components with used or end-of-life parts restored to “like-new” condition and functionality. For developing remanufacturing processes, it is important to take into account the consumers’ perception of remanufactured products, together with factors such as technology and operations management. Previous research has concluded that the perception of a product or service constitutes a critical factor in consumers’ decision-making. However, there is a lack of studies exploring consumers’ perceptions of remanufactured parts, especially in Europe. This contribution analyses the results of an on-line survey (n = 203) of Swedish consumers, concerning their familiarity with remanufactured auto parts and their perceptions on associated benefits and risks. The survey revealed that Swedish car owners have limited knowledge about remanufactured parts. On the other hand, they do recognise the benefits of using such parts, without showing a significant risk aversion in their purchase decision. The survey also explored consumers’ opinion on potential measures to bridge the identified gap in knowledge, revealing that although they would trust a quality certification scheme for remanufactured auto parts—preferably set up by an industry association—that would not be the most critical factor in their purchase decision. Concluding, the article points out the potential of policy interventions to raise consumers’ perception of remanufactured parts to create a market pull for expanding their uptake, and thus increasing the overall resource efficiency in the automotive sector.

Swappable batteries which are no longer used in electric motorcycles are hazardous waste. So, there is a need to make some efforts to extend battery life and process battery waste. The efforts to extend battery life by repairing, refurbishing, remanufacturing, and reusing as well as process batteries by recycling are circular businesses. The development of a circular battery swap business cannot only be carried out by one company but involves various companies and various stakeholders. This study seeks to identify the stakeholders involved in the development of a swappable battery circular business, identify the roles of stakeholders and conduct stakeholder mapping. Data collection was carried out through literature studies, observations, and in-depth interviews as well as distributing questionnaires. Data is processed using Mende low matrix and interactive analysis. The results of the study show that to develop a circular business of electric motorcycle swappable batteries, 30 stakeholders need to be involved. Stakeholders are mapped into four groups, namely key players, keep informed, keep satisfied, and low priority. Stakeholders who are included in the key player category are stakeholders who are the main priority because these stakeholders are important stakeholders and have a major influence in the development of circular business. There are 25 stakeholders included in the key player. The large number of key players shows that circular business development cannot only be carried out by one company, it needs to involve various stakeholders. Each stakeholder has a role in developing a circular business. Stakeholder roles include policy creator, coordinator, implementer, facilitator, and accelerator. Policies regarding battery waste already exist, but these policies need to be evaluated for their effectiveness. Coordination and communication are one of the keys to successful circular business development, therefore coordination and communication are always carried out and it is necessary to involve all existing stakeholders.

Purpose: The aim of this study is to examine the mediating factor of attitude on the consumers’ intention to purchase the remanufactured automotive components in Malaysia. Theoretical framework: The Theory of Perceived Behaviour (TPB) can be expanded, in accordance with Ajzen (1991), by adding new variables or modifying the present paths between variables. As previously mentioned, the TPB contends that attitude, subjective norms, and perceived behavioural control serve as the three pillars that support behavioural intention. However, other researchers asserted that the model's ability to predict actual behaviour may be improved by other variables that are not been included by TPB (Armitage and Conner, 1999, 2001). Therefore, the present study attempts to extend the TPB by including new variables, i.e., perception on the quality, perception about price and environmental consciousness. Design/Methodology/Approach: The quantitative study used primary data that gathered from 561 vehicle users using purposive sampling. Data were analysed using Partial-Least Square - Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM) to examine the mediating effects and the strength of the relationships among the constructs. Findings: The results reveal that price (P) and subjective norm (SN) have significant positive relationship with attitude. Furthermore, attitude, subjective norm, price, and perceived behavioural control (PBC) exert significant positive effect on the behaviour intention (BI) to purchase remanufactured automotive components. Moreover, the findings indicate that attitude significantly mediates the relationship between price, subjective norms and behaviour intention. Research, practical & social implications: The results of this study emphasized that remanufacturers need to implement various marketing strategies including discounts and advertisements to bring positive influence on consumers’ behaviour intention to purchase remanufactured automotive components. Originality/Value: This study extends the Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB) by incorporating price, quality and environmental consciousness perceptions. The expanded theoretical framework improved the predictive ability of the TPB.
