New perspective on DNA response pathway (DDR) in glioblastoma, focus on classic biomarkers and emerging roles of ncRNAs

et al.

Abstract: Background. Glioblastoma (GBM) is the most frequent type of primary brain cancer, having a median survival of only 15 months. The current standard of care includes a combination of surgery, radiotherapy (RT) and chemotherapy with temozolomide, but with limited results. Moreover, multiple studies have shown that tumour relapse and resistance to classic therapeutic approaches are common events that occur in the majority of patients, and eventually leading to death. New approaches to better understand the intrica… Show more

“…As expected, the ubiquitous-like aspect of circRNAs and their abundant dynamic expression within the brain [28,29], along with their relative novelty, make them the ideal candidates for investigation for new GBM biomarkers. Considering that the increased proliferation rate of GBM needs to be sustained by vascularisation, it is known that GBM is highly dependent on angiogenesis [30].…”

“…Furthermore, ncRNAs, particularly microRNAs, have become crucial players in GBM development [17][18][19]. miRNAs are small, ncRNA molecules critical in regulating gene expression.…”
