Abstract:The use of synchrotron spectromicroscopy in neurobiology is definitely beyond the feasibility-test stage. It produced a large variety of results, mostly concerning the microscopic localization of transition elements in neural cells. We will first describe the experimental technique, then we will discuss some specific experimental examples, including the uptake of cobalt and zinc in rat cerebellar neurons.
