New Protection Scheme in Loop Distribution System with Distributed Generation

Abstract: Loop distribution systems are increasingly used for reasons such as increased distributed generation (DG) and increased demand for a reliable and high-quality power supply. Because the loop distribution system involves bidirectional power flow, the method for protection of the radial distribution system cannot be applied. Therefore, a protection method is proposed herein for loop distribution systems. In this study, the existence of DG is also considered. According to the proposed method, the fault point is es… Show more

“…Otherwise, a protection scheme has been suggested based on differential protection. Reference [99] has presented a protection scheme in the loop distribution system in the presence of DGs. This method is based on the equivalent circuit of the distribution system and uses a control center with high-speed communication as the centralized protection scheme.…”

“…[83] References [84] proposes the defense of microgrids through communication links and numeric relays. These techniques [84,85] use differential protection for low fault current detection. Shabani, A et al [86] proposed a communication-aided protection scheme for photovoltaics in DC microgrids.…”

“…In the loop protection schemes, a relay may malfunction due to tie switch operations and bidirectional current flow. A new protection scheme capable of fast fault location and fault section isolation in a loop network is proposed in [42] to achieve the protection of the modern power grid. Protection devices with a simple design and timecurrent characteristics have effectively performed the tasks of protection from overcurrent in both radial and loop configurations.…”
