New records and updated checklist of Cicadomorpha (Hemiptera: Auchenorrhyncha) species from Greece

Abstract

Seventeen auchenorrhynchan species of the family Cicadellidae are recorded from Greece for the first time: Euscelidius variegatus (Kirschbaum 1858), Euscelis ohausi (Wagner 1939), Psammotettix notatus (Melichar 1896), Psammotettix striatus (Linnaeus 1758), Psammotettix sabulicola (Curtis 1837), Anzygina honiloa (Kirkaldy 1906), Arboridia versuta (Melichar 1897), Edwardsiana ishidae (Matsumura 1932), Edwardsiana tersa (Edwards 1914), Eupteryx decemnotata (Rey 1891), Eupteryx curtisii (Flor 1861), Eupteryx rostrata (Ribaut 1936), Frutioidia sanguinosa (Rey 1891), Zygina rosea (Flor 1861), Zygina suavis (Rey 1891), Zygina tiliae (Fallen 1806), Anaceratagallia frisia (Wagner 1939). Faunistic and distributional data notes are given for each species and a complete, updated species checklist for Greece is provided.

Presence of Cicadomorpha in olive orchards of Greece with special reference to Xylella fastidiosa vectors

Drosopoulos, Asche, and Hoch () in a thorough review of Greek Cicadomorpha recorded approximately 420 species belonging to four families, while Thanou et al () reported another 17 species of the family Cicadellidae. In respect of the potential vectors of X. fastidiosa, the former authors stated that in Greece 19 species of spittlebugs (13 and six species of the families Aphrophoridae and Cercopidae, respectively) and three species of sharpshooters are present.…”

Worldwide potential insect vectors of Xylella fastidiosa and assessment of their importance with a focus on Morocco

“…In Italy, three spittlebugs, Philaenus spumarius (Linnaeus), Philaenus italosignus Drosopoulos & Remane, and Neophilaenus campestris Fallén (Hemiptera: Aphrophoridae) demonstrated the ability to transmit X.f in the fi eld (Cavalieri et al, 2019;Panzavolta et al, 2019). However, the two widespread species in Italy and other southern European countries are P. spumarius and N. campestris Morente et al, 2018;Thanou et al, 2018;Tsagkarakis et al, 2018;Bodino et al, 2019;Theodorou et al, 2021), in which P. spumarius alone is the main vector associated with OQDS in olive orchards in the south of Italy (Saponari et al, 2017).
