“…From Figures a and b, it can be seen that, besides the characteristic f – f transitions of doping ions, a strong broad excitation band ranging from 150 nm to 270 nm can be observed. Since the broad band does not belong to the characteristic transition of Tm 3+ or Dy 3+ ions, it should be classified as the intrinsic host absorption of MgIn 2 P 4 O 14 . Excited by the radiation of the characteristic wavelength of Tm 3+ /Dy 3+ , the VUV emission spectra of both MgIn 2 P 4 O 14 :Tm 0.04 and MgIn 2 P 4 O 14 :Dy 0.04 exhibit similar profile shapes to those obtained from the UV measurements (see Figures c and d). Nevertheless, when excited by 216 nm (approximately the maximum of the broad excitation band), wide instinct emission bands located in the visible region ranging from 330 to 600 nm appear in the emission spectra for both MgIn 2 P 4 O 14 :Tm 0.04 and MgIn 2 P 4 O 14 :Dy 0.04 phosphors (see Figures e and f).…”

“…The broadband is attributable to the intrinsic host absorption of CIP as it does not belong to the characteristic transitions of the Dy 3+ ion. 39–44…”

“…2. The un-doped BZP material shows energy absorption in the ≤350 nm region, which is due to charge transfer from Zr 4+ to O 2-and transition between valence band and conduction band in the BZP host lattice [16]. Compared with the un-doped sample, the Eu 2+ -doped samples possess a strong absorption in the spectra of 250-420 nm, which is attributed to the 4f 7 →4f6 5 d 1 absorption of Eu 2+ ions [19].…”
