New semantic media and 3D architectural models representation

Abstract: By some time, the scientific community wonders about some other possible applications of 3D models to the practices of the project, the survey, the conservation and the communication. The recent and continuous developments of technology allow to design new techniques for data processing. In particular, the process of information integration involves all areas mentioned before: from BIM systems (Building Information Modeling) to GIS software (Geographic Information System). Sometimes they are shareware software… Show more

“…Moreover, environmental data and energy performance analysis can be added through dedicated plug-ins. BIM models are not just drawings, but they hold semantic information [65], with parametric smart object libraries, such as the previously mentioned HBIM [9-12, 18, 19, 66] Parametric elements are digital objects that can be modified/updated when needed [7,14,19,20,22]. They are modelled in Geometric Descriptive Language (GDL) [9,12,18,19,66], which means that are defined by parameters (See Fig.…”

“…Representations have always been utilized in architecture since the beginning of the discipline itself (Losciale, Lombardo, & De Luca, 2012). Architects often use physical scale models for portraying ideas within the decision-making process, which is commonly produced in small scales.…”

“…Several ways to use BIM in heritage have been proposed, often under the label "Historic Building Information Modelling (HBIM)" (Murphy et al, 2009). The most successful are the inclusion of semantic information (Losciale et al, 2012), with parametric smart object libraries (Murphy et al, 2009). HBIM is commonly intended as process which includes a specific library of parametric smart objects, of historical and heritage content (Oreni, 2013;Barazzetti et al, 2015).…”
