New ternary compounds containing Zn–Cu and Zn–Ag from single molecular source precursors

Abstract: Heterobimetallic complexes [(PPh 3 )Cu(SCOPh) 3 Zn(PPh 3 )] and [(PPh 3 ) 2 Ag(SCOPh) 2 Zn(SCOPh)(0.5H 2 O)] were used as single molecular sources for the syntheses of ternary compounds. These complexes upon pyrolysis at 350 C in the solid state yielded ZnS/CuS and ZnS/Ag 2 S alloys respectively. In oleylamine solution decomposition of the complexes took place at 165 C only leading to the formation of the corresponding sulfide nanoparticles. The bulk sulfide materials have been characterized by SEM-EDX, XPS an… Show more

“…Extensive studies have revealed the promising potential of Ag 2 S-ZnS based hybrid heterostructures, attributed to their photoluminescence (PL) and optical properties. [4,[18][19][20] However, to the best of our knowledge, incorporation of a magnetic entity in such a system under controlled experimental conditions has never been reported before. Therefore, in this paper we have used Fe 3 O 4 -Ag 2 S dimer as a seed for the heterogeneous nucleation of ZnS, yielding a sophisticated trimer of Fe 3 O 4 -Ag 2 S-ZnS.…”

“…Similarly, novel ZnS composites such as TiO 2 /ZnS [22], ZnS/CdS [23], ZnS/ZnO [24], ZnS-CuS [25], and ZnS-CoFe 2 O 4 [26] have been synthesized for prominent applications. Among these, ZnS-Ag 2 S is a well-known heterostructure for its characteristic structural, optical and photoluminescence (PL) properties [27][28][29]. However, few studies on the properties of ZnS-Ag 2 S photocatalysis for water treatment are available [21].…”
