Nighttime as Experiences: The Influence of Perceived Value on Urban Waterfront Night Cruise Loyalty

Abstract: Urban river tourism can benefit considerably from nighttime business; however, few studies have examined tourist loyalty in the context of urban waterfront night cruises (UWNCs). This study aims to investigate how perceived value influences UWNC loyalty by conducting a fuzzy set qualitative comparative analysis of 372 questionnaires collected from cruise patrons. This study reveals that the loyalty of nighttime tourists is influenced by seven experience variables: nighttime architecture, lighting, nighttime cr… Show more

“…We did not seek data from human subjects or participants so an exemption from an ethical review was granted. Specifically, we primarily relied on quantitative data with the aim to identifying the configuration pattern using the fuzzy-set Qualitative Comparative Analysis (fsQCA), a commonly used technique in tourism research (Valaei, 2019; G. “…It is defined as "translating technology of a consumer's feeling and image for a product into design elements" [42][43][44][45]. The applications of Kansei engineering are numerous, especially in product development [48][49][50], recent studies address the effect of indoor lighting design [46,47] but in the field of urban lighting the studies are still limited [51,52]. Traditionally, research aiming at user responses to lighting environment comes from the field of psychology or engineering, not considering parameters of lighting design that could effectively cater to specific user needs.…”

“…From the perspective of night tourism participants, three types of subjects have been prioritized: night tourists, related industry workers, and indigenous residents. Among them, night tourists have received the greatest amount of research attention, and the studies include their travel motivation [46], travel behavior [47], travel flow [48], [49], night tourism perception [50], satisfaction [51], [52], and willingness to revisit [53]. Regarding the impact of night tourism, research has been carried out mainly in terms of positive and negative impacts, with the former including boosting the economy [54], employment growth [55], improving the tourism product system [56], satisfying tourists' needs [57], improving infrastructure [58], and promoting rural revitalization [59], whereas the latter are mainly the impacts of night tourism on local community residents [60], [61], [62], including increased crime rate, environmental pollution, and class conflict.…”
