NINQ: Name-Integrated Query Framework for Named-Data Networking of Things

Abstract: Information-Centric Networking (ICN) is a paradigm shift from host-to-host Internet Protocol (IP)-based communication to content-based communication. In ICN, the content-retrieval process employs names that are given through different naming schemes such as hierarchical, flat, attribute, and hybrid. Among different ICN architectures, Named-Data Networking (NDN) has gained much interest in the research community and is actively being explored for the Internet of Things (IoT) and sensor networks, and follows a h… Show more

“…In [90], the authors argue that the existing conventional hierarchical or hybrid NDN naming schema are inefficient to extract contents that are transient in nature and present instead a named-based query and command mechanism (NINQ) framework for ICN-based IoT. The authors of [54] present an adaptive content dissemination solution for VANET networks that includes hierarchical context-aware content naming schemes that enable both safety-critical and non-safety applications.…”

“…Therefore, in such environments with dynamic topology changes and massive devices such as an IoT environment, ICN may enhance the performance of these networks. There are two papers presented in this special Issue: “Hierarchical Name-Based Mechanism for Push-Data Broadcast Control in Information-Centric Multihop Wireless Networks” [3], and “NINQ: Name-Integrated Query Framework for Named-Data Networking of Things” [4]. In [3], an ICN protocol for two application scenarios such as smart buildings and vehicular networks is proposed.…”

“…The proposed method controls the number of unnecessary data packets in the network which are proved by extensive simulations using an ndnSIM simulator. In [4], the paper proposes a flexible, expressive, and secure query mechanism that supports content retrieval as well as control and configuration command exchange among various nodes in a smart building. Through the Comparative studies, the proposed mechanism outperforms the most recent naming schemes in terms of Interest Satisfaction Rate (ISR), Command Satisfaction Rate (CSR), number of packets processed in the network, energy consumption, and average delay.…”
