Nitric oxide and hydrogen sulfide crosstalk during heavy metal stress in plants

Abstract: Gases such as ethylene, hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 ), nitric oxide (NO), carbon monoxide (CO) and hydrogen sulfide (H 2 S) have been recognized as vital signaling molecules in plants and animals. Of these gasotransmitters, NO and H 2 S have recently gained momentum mainly because of their involvement in numerous cellular processes. It is therefore important to study their various attributes including their biosynthetic and signaling pathways. The present review provides an insight into various routes for the b… Show more

“…Paul and Roychoudhury (), Pandey and Gautam () and Singh et al (2019) have covered exhaustive current roles of H 2 S and NO in plants under changing environmental conditions. Finally, Sharma et al () and Shivaraj et al () have discussed molecular mechanisms and crosstalk of NO and H 2 S in metal stress tolerance.…”

“…Reactive oxygen species (ROS) are potentially toxic to plant cells, even though these compounds play a key role in signaling (Ahmad et al, 2019). In plants, TIPs can facilitate the diffusion of hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 ), which is a ROS (Shivaraj, Vats, et al, 2019). Bienert et al (2007) provided the first molecular evidence that AtTIP1;1, and AtTIP1;2 can transport H 2 O 2 across the membrane.…”

“…Isoforms of this enzyme were identified and characterized in different plant species [ 50 , 51 , 52 ]. H 2 S regulates several developmental processes, especially stress responses [ 71 , 72 , 73 ]. Recently, Zhang et al [ 74 ] provided evidence that specifically H 2 S produced by d -CDes catalysis mediates Cd tolerance in A. thaliana .…”
