“…Knight et al 11 have also reported that lanthanum (La) and EGTA inhibit the salt-and mannitol-induced (Ca 2+ ) cyt elevations in Arabidopsis. In a previous study, Xu et al 18 have reported that ABA protects tall fescue plant from oxidative injuries by promoting NO release (via activating NOS) thereby triggering the activities of antioxidant enzymes. Therefore, also in order to study the possible link between Ca 2+ and NO signalling, As + Ca treated Brassica seedlings were treated with NO scavenger: c-PTIO and synthase inhibitor: l-NAME.…”

“…Nitric oxide (NO), an important gaseous signaling molecule, plays a key role in regulating plant growth and developmental processes such as seed germination, cell death, de-etiolation, pathogen response, cell senescence, cell signal transduction, and programmed cell death (PCD). 13,14) Our recent studies indicated that NO pretreatment or He-Ne laser illumination activated plant antioxidant defenses in tall fescue seedlings during high saline conditions, 3,15) and we supposed that in improving plant adaptive responses to salt stress, there may be a similar correlation between NO and He-Ne laser irradiation. Thereby, the primary objective of the present study is to assess the interactive correlations between He-Ne laser irradiation-induced favorable biological effects and NO biosynthesis in vivo in plants through investigating the protective effect of He-Ne laser illumination on reactive oxygen species (ROS) level, plant antioxidant system and membrane injury in leaves of tall fescue seedlings, and further explore the role of endogenous NO molecule in the laser protective effects on salt-stressed seedlings.…”

“…Houndog5) were surface sterilized with 6.0% sodium hypochlorite (v/v, NaClO) supplemented with 0.1% Tween-20 for 30 min, rinsed with distilled water for several times, and cultured on moistened gauze in Petri dishes for germination in a plant incubator (PGX-250B, AC 220 V/50 HZ, 600 W, Shanghai Fuma Laboratory Instrument Co., Ltd.) for 7d under darkness, at 25 ± 2°C, 70% relative humidity. After germination, seedlings were transplanted into black plastic containers containing suitable volume of Hoagland's nutrient solution, 14,15,21) and cultured hydroponically at relative humidity 70% conditions (day/night 24/20°C), a photoperiod 16/8 h day/night cycle, and photosynthetic photo flux density (PPFD) 100 μmol•m −2 •s −1 . The pH of Hoagland's nutrient solution was adjusted to 6.0-6.5 with 1 N HCl or 1 N NaOH.…”
