“…Gressmann et al [32]). High-resolution cross-sectional TEM studies at the location of the "/ 0 interface confirm that no specific orientation relationship, as reported elsewhere [28,[41][42][43][44][45], occurs between " and 0 . TEM also showed that neither in the " layer (figure 6) nor in the 0 layer at/near the interface stacking faults are present; stacking faults could lead to special line-shift and line-broadening effects in the powder-diffraction patterns.…”

“…TEM on cross-sections at the "/ 0 interface region was carried out using a JEOL JEM-4000FX (400 kV) transmission electron microscope. The preparation procedure of the TEM foils is described in the literature [27,28]. For EBSD measurements, performed on cross-sections, the specimens were embedded, ground and polished (last step: colloidal silica suspension OPS, Struers GmbH, for several hours).…”

“…As an example, the calculated lattice parameters of ζ -Fe 2 N are a = 4.3406Å, b = 5.4480Å, c = 4.7544Å, which are very close to the values (a = 4.437Å, b = 5.541Å, c = 4.843Å) found by Rechnbach and Jacobs using neutron and high-resolution synchrotron diffraction at room temperature, 14 and to the values (a = 4.425Å, b = 5.523Å, c = 4.830Å) obtained by Jack. “…2,7,8 Finally, knowledge about the role of carbon and nitrogen in Fe 2 X carbides and nitrides is very useful to understand chemical reactions, such as nitridation and carburization of iron-related materials and the related effects on surface hardening and cracking mechanisms in steels. [1][2][3][4][5] There have been many efforts by both experimentalists and theoreticians to understand the structural relationships 2,4,[8][9][10][11][12][13][14][15] and the electronic and magnetic properties of Fe 2 X carbides and nitrides as well as the differences between them. 2,8,[16][17][18][19][20][21][22][23][24] Using x-ray diffraction (XRD), Jack investigated the crystal structures of the hexagonal ε-Fe 3 X 1+x phases and their structural relationships with ζ -Fe 2 N and η-Fe 2 C. [10][11][12] Schwarz and coworkers performed high-pressure-high-temperature (HT-HP) experiments, revealing that orthorhombic ζ -Fe 2 N transforms into the hexagonal ε-Fe 3 X 1+x form at HT-HP conditions.…”
