“…According to this previous trial, we also showed that the nutraceutical containing alpha lipoic acid decreases MMP-2, and MMP-9 and increases nitrites/nitrates ratio. Nitrites/nitrates ratio is inversely proportional to oxidative cell damages and granulocytic apoptosis ( 33 ); reducing oxidative stress can help in reducing endothelial damage with a role in ED. Regarding the effects on sexual performance, when the nutraceutical was added to Avanafil, it improved IIEF score, when compared to Avanafil alone.…”

“…The sum of nitrites and nitrates (named NOx) is a good indicator of NO formation, and it shows NOS activities in many pathophysiological conditions (13). However, it is difficult to measure NO directly because NO is quite short lived.…”

“…Gordon et al [51] showed that under conditions such as physiological stress that increases NO, apoptosis in thymocytes is induced. The role of NO in regulating cell apoptosis is a complex issue and may depend, among other factors, on the cell type [16,52] . It has been shown to be apoptotic, antiapoptotic or not involved at all.…”
