Nitrogen‐doped SWCNT synthesis using ammonia and carbon monoxide

Abstract: Great effort has been directed into modifying the electrical properties of produced carbon nanotubes by chemical doping and -in parallel -into controlling their chirality. We present a new approach to synthesizing nitrogen-doped single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs), based on gas phase floating catalyst CVD. The nitrogen content in the tubes was verified by transmission electron microscopy/electron-energy loss spectroscopy (TEM/EELS), and their chiral angle distribution found by electron diffraction (ED) to … Show more

“…Triple-walled NCNTs were prepared by encapsulation and pyrolysis of Fe(II) phthalocyanine in the interior space of double-walled CNTs [349]. A new approach to synthesize SWNCNTs using a gas phase floating catalyst CVD method where carbon monoxide acts as carbon source, NH 3 as the nitrogen source and etching agent, and iron particles derived from ferrocene [350,351] or from iron vapor evaporated from a resistively heated iron wire [352,353] as the catalyst, was recently presented. The NCNT bouquets have been synthesized by the pyrolysis of nitrogen-containing ion-exchange resin [354].…”

“…Nitrogen‐doped single‐walled carbon nanotubes were synthesized using a ferrocene floating catalyst CVD method with carbon monoxide as the carbon source and small amounts of ammonia diluted in argon as the doping agent 13–15. Pristine SWCNTs were obtained from the same conditions, but without added ammonia.…”
