No association between subclinical hypothyroidism and dyslipidemia in children and adolescents

Abstract: Background There are controversies about the correlation between higher levels of thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) and dyslipidemia in children. This study was designed to assess the relation between lipid profile components and TSH levels in children. Method This cross-sectional study was performed in a pediatric endocrinology growth assessment clinic in Shiraz, southern Iran. Children aged 2–18 years who referred to the clinic fro… Show more

“…On the other hand, the association between hypothyroidism and dyslipidemia is not universal and lack of association is reported in the literature [32,33]. Dyslipidemia plays a role in increased cardiovascular disease in patients with subclinical hypothyroidism [34]. The bene t of treating subclinical hypothyroidism is debated in literature and current guidelines suggest individualised decisions [14,35,36].…”

“…The absence of THs would increase LDL-c levels in the circulation. Therefore, hypothyroidism causes hypercholesterolemia due to decreased expression of LDL receptors (LDLr) (Habib and Habib, 2020), leading to an imbalance in cholesterol uptake, resulting in a significant increase in Apo lipoprotein B (Apo B), TC and LDL-c levels and decreased clearance of LDL-c and TC in the blood (Duntas and Wartofsky, 2007). In addition, a reduction in clearance of TG levels in circulation as well as aggregation of IDL is due to decreased lipoprotein lipase activity (LPL).…”

В исследовании Habib A. и др.…”

“…В исследовании Habib A. и др.
