Background Thread lifting procedures for facial rejuvenation have made great strides with the development of absorbable threads. Although they have gained fame among plastic surgeons and dermatologists, there have been very few studies published in scientific articles on the effects of absorbable threads in facial rejuvenation, as well as few studies published by aesthetic physicians. The most effective and efficient techniques to determine the adequate place to insert the reabsorbable thread, and the different ways to evaluate the effectiveness of these aesthetic procedures, are still unknown. Objectives This review aims to identify, in the scientific literature, the evaluation techniques for a safe and correct insertion of PDO threads in facial rejuvenation procedures. Methodology A review of scientific literature was performed using the following list of keywords, descriptors, or thesauri: PDO threads, aesthetics, facial rejuvenation. Scopus, PubMed, and Web of Science databases were used for the literature search. Articles from years 2012–2022 were selected. The reference lists of the identified articles were included. (16) out of (35) articles associated with the topic were selected. Simple and compound searches were performed with the keywords and very few rigorous studies about the use of PDO threads for aesthetic procedures were found. Results Very few rigorous scientific studies on the use of PDO threads for facial rejuvenation procedures were found. There is a strong theoretical and methodological gap on this subject, and, also, on the evaluation techniques that could be used for the safe and correct insertion of the threads. Conclusion The bibliographic information found shows a huge theoretical and methodological gap in the subject of procedures for facial rejuvenation with PDO threads, as well as the techniques and tools employed to guarantee the correct insertion of the threads.

Facial aesthetic surgery is an emerging branch worldwide. India, a torchbearer country in facial plastic surgery, has seen tremendous growth in medical technology, resources, and clientele over the past century. This study aims to study past practices and current trends in facial plastic surgery and aesthetic procedures in India by individually addressing commonly performed non-surgical procedures (Botox, Kybella [Allergan, Irvine, CA], fillers, threads, micro-focused ultrasound, and non-surgical hair restoration), and surgical procedures (rhinoplasty, blepharoplasty, hair transplant and facelift). It also aims to further elaborate on the scope of facial aesthetics and make recommendations on prospects in the field. A structured scoping review and a subsequent evidence-based synthesis were done following an extensive literature search on various databases such as PubMed (National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, MD), LILACS (Latin American and Caribbean Center on Health Sciences Information, São Paulo, Brazil), MEDLINE (National Library of Medicine, Bethesda, MD), EMBASE (Elsevier, the Netherlands), and Cochrane (Wiley, Hoboken, NJ). The initial search yielded 703 articles, out of which 20 were found to be relevant to the present study and discussed. It was found that there is an upward trend in the growth of facial plastic surgery in India and a gradual shift in patient attitude towards non-surgical aesthetic procedures was seen. This article affirms the growth of facial aesthetic surgery in India by highlighting the recent development and trends in the practices of surgeons. It also addresses the shortcomings in the current administration and makes recommendations to fill the existing loopholes in plastic surgery.

IntroductionFacial thread lifting is a highly demanded procedure in esthetic clinics worldwide. The aim of this retrospective study is to evaluate the clinical effectiveness and overall patients’ satisfaction of a new generation of barbed threads, in which a hyaluronic acid (HA) coat was added to the PLLA/PCL threads and compare the results with PLLA/PCL threads without HA.Materials and methodsTwenty patients treated with the PLLA/PCL threads with or without hyaluronic acid (HA) were compared for FaceQ scales: Age appraisal, psychological function, skin satisfaction, satisfaction with facial appearance, appraisal lines of nasolabial folds, satisfaction of lower face, and jaw were compared at baseline, 4 and 12 months post‐treatment. Early impact on life and the skin adverse effects were assessed 1 week post‐treatment. Finally, patients and two physicians provided the GAIS score at 4 and 12 months and a comparison was made between the two groups.ResultsThere was a statistically significant improvement in all scales of FaceQ for all included patients at baseline and at 4 and 12 months post‐treatment. Importantly, there were less skin‐related adverse effects such as skin redness, uneven tone, irregular surface, burning, and itching sensation at a recovery period (1 week post‐treatment) in the group receiving HA‐containing threads.ConclusionA notably higher long‐term improvement in aging appearance, satisfaction with face appearance, lower jaw and face as well as GAIS was seen in the group treated with HA‐containing threads compared to the other treatment arm.
