Nonlinear optical properties in a nanoring: quantum size and magnetic field effect

Abstract: We have performed calculations of nonlinear optical absorption and nonlinear optical rectification of an exciton in a nanoring in the presence of the magnetic flux. Our results show that one can control properties of nonlinear optical absorption and nonlinear optical rectification of a nanoring by tuning outer and inner radius. In addition, we also find that nonlinear optical properties of a nanoring can be modulated by the magnetic flux through nanoring.

“…The nonlinear optical properties, such as optical absorption [38,39], have shown high potential for device applications in farinfrared laser amplifiers [40], photo-detectors [41], and high speed electro-optical modulators [42]. Therefore, for both fundamental and applied researches, the nonlinear optical properties of semiconductor quantum heterostructures have attracted much attention in recent years [43][44][45][46][47][48]. The effects of asymmetry and applied electric field on the electronic subbands and the nonlinear intersubband optical absorption in GaAs quantum wells with Pöschl-Teller confining potential have been studied by Yildirim and Tomak [43].…”

“…Most of those investigations were made for spherical quantum dots systems (see for instance Refs. [9,40,41]) and there are also works on single quantum rings structures [20,42,43]. In our case, the nonlinear coefficient function on photon energy contributes to the clearly observable shift of the total absorption coefficient maximum value from the corresponding threshold energy point and to the nonmonotonic behavior of absorption strength as the function of L 2 .…”

“…Given that we have considered a one-particle problem, N i = 1 must be taken for the ground state and N f = 0 for the excited states and the term M if represents the matrix element of coordinate. In addition, to interpret the magnitude of intraband absorption strength, the oscillator strength is calculated [45,46]:…”
