Abstract:Nonlinear magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) simulations are conducted for a helical plasma with a large pressure gradient to investigate the collapse event induced by MHD instabilities. The simulation results show that the ballooning-like instabilities on an intermediate spatial scale induce disordering of structures in the barrier region and a drop in the central pressure. It was revealed that the core pressure fall is related to disordering of the magnetic field structure. The simulation results are compared qualit… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
