Nonmuscle-invasive and Muscle-invasive Urinary Bladder Cancer

Abstract: This study compared the imaging quality, diagnostic accuracy, and apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) values of reduced field-of-view (rFOV) diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) and full field-of-view (fFOV) single-shot echo-planar imaging with regard to patients with nonmuscle-invasive or muscle-invasive bladder cancer.Thirty-nine patients with 60 bladder tumors underwent rFOV and fFOV DWI in this internal review board-approved study. Pathologic and histologic grades were determined for all tumors. Two observers… Show more

“…Similar results were also noted in abdominal organs. Peng et al [ 8 ] and Wang et al [ 10 ] reported that image quality was significantly higher for r-FOV DWI images than the f-FOV DWI images in both rectal and urinary bladder tumors. Similar results were obtained in prostate tumor by Tamada et al [ 11 ] The r-FOW DWI sequence allowed the edge of the gallbladder wall and the structure of the tissue to be displayed more clearly, and it is easier to detect small lesions.…”

“…When discordance between the T2WI and DCE exists, high-quality DW images should be considered as the predominant sequence to maximize the diagnostic performance. 26,28 In this study, all exams were performed on a 3.0 T MRI system and were acquired with high-resolution images, 22,29,30 which were essential for the scoring. Moreover, the application of bi-planar rFOV DWI sequence ensured that the tumor base was visible.…”

“…Zoomed DWI is one of techniques of rFOV DWI sequence. A few reports of rFOV DWI sequence for bladder cancer have been published [ 9 – 11 ], and the good image quality or superiority for diagnosis of the differentiation between NMIBC and MIBC of bladder cancer using rFOV DWI sequence were mentioned in these reports. If the rFOV DWI sequence is better than the conventional DWI using VI-RADS for the distinction of NMIBC and MIBC, the superiority of rFOV DWI sequence might be firmer.…”

“…With Zoomed DWI, the ability to discriminate NMIBC and MIBC may be better than with conventional DWI. Recently, a few reports of rFOV sequence for bladder cancer have been published [ 9 – 11 ]. However, there have been few reports evaluating the diagnostic ability of the differentiation between NMIBC and MIBC of bladder cancer on rFOV DWI sequence using VI-RADS.…”
